Classroom Use
I grant permission for teachers to print out select images on personal color printers for use in classroom settings to enhance and illustrate insect curriculum. Teachers might also find a gold mine of useful educational material within the pages of Cultural Entomology Digest.
Web Page Use
I grant permission for usage of a single image on any Web site as long as you include a credit line that reads "Photo by Dexter Sear, IO Vision." Please also make the link to http://www.insects.org. I'd also appreciate an email to let me know the URL of your Web page. If you want to use more than a single image, I have a limit of 4 images with associated fees. A single image is free, two images - $15*, three images - $30*, and 4 images - $45*. In general, I do not grant permission to use more than 4 images on a single Web site for reasons of diluting the content value of my own site.
Project Use
Project use covers most other usage scenarios including commercial ventures. I recently teamed up with the Endangered Species Chocolate Company to produce a series of 48 BugBites trading cards bundled with bite-sized organic chocolate. I welcome and enjoy collaborative projects using insect imagery and information in creative projects and can offer you full design and production capabilities. In an effort to encourage projects, I structure my image usage rates based on the data size delivered. The bigger the data file, the larger you can effectively reproduce the purchased image. Three standard sizes and associated costs are detailed below. All data files are scanned on a Nikon LS-2000 scanner. If you desire professional drum scans, I can send you a quote you for this additional charge. The cost is based on a non-exclusive usage charge where I retain full ownership and copyright. I can post smaller files on my FTP site or can mail you a CD-R. If you have any questions, please send me an email.
Low Resolution 1-Mb File
This most affordable format is based roughly on a 640x480 pixel file (a little bigger than the images you find on the enlargement pages.) This translates into a high quality 3" x 2" printed image.
Cost: $25* per image
Medium Resolution 4.5-Mb File
The medium resolution format is based roughly on a 1450x1100 pixel file. This resolution translates into a high quality 6.5" x 5" printed image.
Cost: $100* per image
High Resolution 15.5-Mb File
The high resolution format is based roughly on a 2700x2025 pixel file. This translates into a high quality 12" x 9" printed image.
Cost: $200* per image

In the future, I hope to expand this site to include easier access for reviewing and selecting stock material, and eventually release a stock CD collection of insect images. If you have any comments or suggestions, send them my way via email.
