These large true bugs are named a leaf-like modification to the hind tibia. Not all species exhibit this characteristic and males usually posses exaggerated feature including spine which they use to defend their territory against other males. This group possess scent glands on each side of the thorax. Most leaf-footed bugs feed on plants and a few including the Squash Bug in the US have become serious pest.
