Order, Family and Description

The Bible often referred to insects as having only four legs for walking. Most Nymphalid butterflies appear to only have four feet. Females use their tiny reduced feet to drum on the surface of host plant leaves to taste if they've found the correct plant. Males are the only ones to have brush feet and probably use them in mating rituals. With salts and minerals at a premium in the tropical rainforests, these butterflies gather to imbibe mineral collected in rain puddles along the road for strength in their mating duties. The top wing surfaces of this butterfly are bright orange and black.
