This caterpillar uses vivid coloration to draw attention to itself. The obviously threatening structural protuberances protect this otherwise tasty morsel. Once the caterpillar is fully grown, it turns into an inactive chrysalis while undergoing its miraculous transformation into a beautiful butterfly.
