Order, Family and Description

Throughout history, insects have been used as a source of food in many cultures. In Australia, the aborigines in the Bogong Mountains of New South Wales gather the mass of adult Bogong moths, a Noctuid named Agrotis infusa, that shelters in the caves and crevices. During the Australian Summer between November and January, numerous Aboriginal tribes gather for feasts on these moths. Some Native American tribes have also been documented to have eaten caterpillars of certain Sphinx Moths.
