 |  Many migratory grasshoppers exhibit abbreviated-wing generations. During period of plenty of food, the population will produce adults with shortened wings. When the population need to move to new territory, they will revert back to a fully winged adult capable of migration. Similar behavior can be found in aphids. This female Brazilian hopper displays her shortened wings and huge jumping hind legs.
